Heavy-Duty Chairs FAQ

What is a heavy-duty chair?

Our heavy-duty chairs are ergonomically designed for extended and continual use. Unlike table or sitting chairs built for periodic use, heavy-duty chairs are built to withstand everyday life's constant wear and tear.

With a heavier base, hard-wearing material and solid construction, they're the ideal chair for your daily office or working needs. And they're also designed to support your back – preventing any injuries or stresses associated with other chair types.

How should I sit in a heavy-duty chair?

Many people do not receive optimal support due to poor posture when sitting. This can lead to back pain and other muscular pains. Here are a few tips to help:
1. Straighten your back to meet the curve of the chair.
2. Rest your feet on the floor (otherwise, use a footrest).
3. Your screen should be at eye level.
4. Try not to lean to either side.
5. Take a break. You aren't meant to sit in a chair for hours. Always have a quick break every hour or so.
6. Keep your arms and thighs at right angles and parallel to the floor.

How much weight can the average chair hold?

In general, the average chair can support up to 110 kilograms in weight. Heavy-duty chairs are designed to withstand substantially more weight, capable of supporting between 140 to 360 kilograms in weight*. It isn't necessarily that the chairs are targeted at heavier people; however, the heavy-duty design contains significant additional strength. If you do apply more weight to the chair, it may cause the chair to break sooner than it may otherwise have done.

*Please do not take this estimate as an actual weight limit. These figures are intended as a guide and not a guaranteed weight limit.

What is the best chair for sitting for long hours?

No one should spend long hours sitting on wooden or non-ergonomic chairs, like kitchen or dining room chairs. They aren't designed to support your back or promote proper posture. Long-term use can therefore lead to significant postural problems.

In contrast, all of our heavy-duty chairs were designed with long-term use in mind. They'll all support the back and keep you comfortable for long hours. However, certain chairs provide more cushioning, which may be preferable if you do spend longer sitting during the day. It's a personal preference.

How can I make my office chair stronger?

We do not recommend modifying or changing any of our heavy-duty chairs. The internal mechanism allowing positioning to be changed can be broken, and the chair will no longer provide optimal ergonomic support.

However, if you wish to make your chair more ergonomic, we recommend adding a back support, seat cushion, or ergonomic footrest. Naturally, all bodies come in a range of shapes and sizes, which may not all be accommodated by our heavy-duty chairs. These extras can help improve your level of comfort and support.
